DVD Short-Listed For Award

Our DVD 'The Last of Old England'- a celebration of life in a Suffolk pub, has been short listed for the Folklore Society Non-Print Media award. The prize giving will take place following the annual Katherine Briggs lecture on Wednesday 19th November 2014 at 6.30pm at the Warburg Institute, Woburn Square, London WC1H 0AB.

The DVD, which has met with much local acclaim, features local horsemen arriving in their pony and traps with their high steppers and flat carts, followed by banter, ale and tales of horse deals and fairs, old sporting ways and a love of nature. Of gypsies in the company telling of life on the road, and being born with 16 others in a gypsy wagon.

Having sustained themselves one in the company will come forward to provide the button accordion music for step dancing or a waltz and an unaccompanied song or two before they light the lamps for the journey home.

Important Recordings of Gipsies

We have recorded the gipsies, Les and Edna Elliott, for over 14 hours telling story after story from over 70 years experience of travelling the highways and byways of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.

Stories of constantly being moved on but more importantly what living close to nature off the land and the life means to them.

These unique recordings will not be cropped and edited as we feel that every word, expression and saying has a meaning and is important to the valuable whole- life picture that they produce.  Furthermore their natural gift of storytelling comes to the fore.

These DVDs are now coming in to production so please enquire as to their availability and reduced price for the entire set.
